Theme: Assessing for Learning
This issue of Primary Subjects
focuses on the thorny question of assessing for learning – how can assessment
of children’s current knowledge, skills and understanding be used as a stepping
stone – a launch pad – for further learning?
To introduce the concept we have commissioned an extra leaflet produced for us jointly by the Association for Achievement and Improvement through Assessment (AAIA) and the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors (CIEA). These are two professional membership organisations for those with an interest in the assessment, recording and reporting of achievement. Their leaflet considers what makes classroom-based assessment for learning effective, providing key advice for Assessment Leaders and class teachers.
Primary Subjects 7 consists the usual 16 contributions from the subject associations, each considering what assessing for learning (AfL) looks like within their subject.
