Primary Subjects 2: Supporting Gifted and Talented Children
This issue of Primary Subjects the CfSA has adopted the DCSF definition of 'gifted and talented' to refer to those who have one or more abilities, in curriculum areas, developed to a level significantly ahead of their year group. Schools often use different terminology to refer to gifted and talented children and in this issue we try to unpick the terminology and what it means in each subject. What happens in the classroom is ultimately more important than the words used to describe 'highly able' or 'high fliers'.

Primary Subjects 3: Engaging with Globalisation
Each of the subject pamphlets in Primary Subject 3 starts off by explaining why it's important to engage with globalisation. What this edition of Primary Subjects demonstrates very well is the recognition that globalisation is not the exclusive preserve of geographers or citizenship but relates to every subject. From a subject perspective, bringing the global dimension to lessons helps children to explore the complexity and the links between their lives and those of people in other parts of the world.

Primary Subjects 4: Learning Outside the Classroom
Learning outside the classroom is nothing new. The richness of the theme for this issue of Primary Subjects is illustrated by the variety of ideas covered in each of the subjects. Most of the pamphlets explore the opportunities for learning presented by the school site but some look at opportunities further afield in neighbouring streets and communities. More distant locations including heritage sites and castles are also covered by some subjects. Many of the resources in this issue have cross-subject links, which could be of use in preparing for the introduction of the new primary curriculum.

Primary Subjects 5: Get Ready for the London 2012 Games
Each pamphlet in this issue of Primary Subjects illustrates how one particular subject area might use the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a stimulus. The leaflets have been written by subject associations and each one comprises:
information for the subject coordinator
ideas and case studies to inspire class teachers
updates on what each subject association has to offer to primary members.
None of the contributors had the slightest difficulty in identifying ways that the 2012 Games can stimulate learning in their subject area.
